Digital Capital Defined

Share

A little over three months ago, a few folks put their heads together and kick started an effort to bring a week of events to Washington that would offer social and new media enthusiasts, practitioners and thought-leaders the opportunity to get together and get creative.  Little did this lean team know what they were starting and now DC has a new cultural and professional tradition: Digital Capital Week.

It’s the Monday after the inaugural DCWEEK and its hard to describe a week where not only did so much happened, because so much is still happening.  The volume of blogs, articles, tweets and texts sent between attendees (both on sight and online) is astounding and proof that the connections made last week were not just your basic grip and grin name tag party.  However skeptical some remain about the power of social media, presentations by fundraisers or film-makers put to rest any lingering doubts by providing measurable results of the effectiveness of social media.

Whether it was a question that prompted a post-panel discussion, sharing a couch in the bloggers lounge or a chance-run in during one of the many, MANY, social events, over 8,000 people attended Digital Capital Week events and so many are already sharing how their experience has already impacted activity on their project, platform or non-profit.

Coffee tables became make-shift conference room and bouncy balls were used to map out project benchmarks as folks in shorts, suits- and even one pushing a stroller- got together to discuss anything from how best to bring a farmers market online to how to make an app that could coordinate on-site entertainment to hospice care patients.

We’ll be posting even more pics, blogs and links to great stories to keep the conversation going. Feel free to send us your thoughts, take aways, and “favorite moments” via twitter, email or just by clicking here.  Your input is vital to the success of DCWEEK and we want to hear how your projects are going, help where we can, and hope to celebrate your success in the future.

Washington D.C. has come of age, and with the wealth of resources and knowledge we share together, the week was certainly aptly named. Besides, only in Washington, would a “week” last 10 days.
