DCWEEK is only a few days away and if you are a programmer there will be plenty to keep you busy during the week. First and foremost will the The Hackathon, held on Sunday November 6th starting at 9:00AM at the Microsoft HQ headquarters in Chevy Chase. There will be a $20,000 prize to win, so it’s definitely quite a “encouragment” to bring your dev talents for a day.
There are others events of interest for geeks out there during the week, and with everything being “social” right now, you might want to check out the “Inclusive Data through Design” panel on Thursday November 10th from 9:00AM to 10:00AM at the Artisphere Terrace Gallery. The theme will be Social Data and speakers from IBM, Stanford University, The World Bank and Brightsphere will provide much needed insight on how the collection, interpretation and distribution of data creates more inclusive, responsive and efficient services, cities and businesses.
I know of personally of a couple of startup entrepreneurs that will definitely want to immediately follow that up at 10:30AM with Data and Dating with Andreas Weigend who is currently Director of the Social Data Lab at Stanford University and was ex-Chief Scientist at Amazon.com. If your startup or app has to do with dating, this talk is what you need to get valuable insight on the social data of dating and mobility.
Other events of note to dev, geeks or entrepreneurs, or any combination thereof will be Africa Gathering, discussing Technology, Art, Health and Entrepreneurship in Africa, Functional Programming Hacking night (Erlang/Scala) for the strong hearted, the AT&T Fast Pitch contest and the Capital Technology Startup Challenge for entrepreneurial minded, and Politics For Programmers for a little twist on programming. I hope to personally meet some of you at these events and in preparation, don’t forget to grab your Gold badge which will give you access as well as priority seating at all of the events including the Main Conference on Thursday.
