TEDxOilSpill to Explore Solutions and Alternatives

Share

If you’re passionate about energy, the oil spill, and our energy future, you won’t want to miss TEDxOilSpill taking place in DC on June 28, 2010. Though it is being held a bit after Digital Capital Week, it’s very much in the DCWEEK spirit, and several of the community members who helped bring you DCWEEK are also working on TEDxOilSpill.

The TEDxOilSpill organizing team has assembled a world-class lineup of presenters, including:

  • Sylvia Earle, renowned oceanographer and winner of the TED Prize
  • Philippe Cousteau, diver scientist and environmental activist
  • David Gallo, undersea explorer
  • Jigar Shah, renewable energy visionary
  • Wolcott Henry, underwater photographer
  • Leroy Stick, the pseudonymous humorist behind @BPGlobalPR
  • Christen Lien, violist and composer
  • TEDxOilSpill Gulf Expedition Team

The TEDxOilSpill Gulf Expedition will highlight the work of renowned photographers James Duncan Davidson and Kris Krüg, as well as videographer Pinar Özger. They are in the Gulf right now, doing original first-hand reporting that will help get to the bottom of what’s really going on in the Gulf.

We are putting this together on an incredibly short timeline, and we need your help.

Here are three things you can do:

  1. Tweet. We’re at http://tedxoilspill.com and on Twitter at @TEDxOilSpill
  2. Register to attend
  3. Donate to the TEDxOilSpill Gulf Expedition

If you are not familiar with TED, it is an organization dedicated to celebrating ideas that can change the world for the better  — ideas worth spreading. The TEDx program was created in 2009 to allow people all around the world to organize around the TED conference format and unleash its power.

TEDxOilSpill came together out of a powerful shared belief that now more than ever we should be reaching out to find, share, and promote the best available ideas and thinking about energy — and about how to mitigate the very severe crisis in the Gulf.

We hope you can join us, but if you can’t you can also consider hosting (or joining) a TEDxOilSpill Meetup. People all around the world will be participating in the event virtually via our live stream.

And again, the very best thing you can do is to help us spread the word about this event and encourage others to do the same. Everybody we talk to is very enthusiastic and we don’t want to be looking back on the event afterwards hearing people say they wish they had known about it. Help us make sure that everyone knows about it beforehand.
